AT THE GONZAGA HOUSE

THE DUCAL PALACE COMPLEX IN MANTUA

"A city in the form of a palace" words invented for the Ducal Palace of Urbino but which still today adapt to the palace of the Gonzagas of Mantua made up of buildings from different eras, gardens on the ground and in the air, streets and squares, basements and attics, churches and courtyards.

Each prince has added his piece. The relationship between the palace and the city is disproportionate, so much so that the palace ranks second in Europe in size, after the Vatican. There is to get lost in time and space but accompanied by a local guide it will be easier.

THE LIES OF THE DUCAL PALACE

ART AND A HISTORY FOLDED TO THE REASON OF STATE

We will lead you to the discovery of the Doge's Palace, an emblematic monument of Venice that was able to transform itself from a swamp to a great naval and commercial power.

A rich and sophisticated city, cosmopolitan and democratic, Venice was attentive to its public image, pushing itself to manipulate art to put it at the service of the reason of state, contributing to the creation of the Myth of the Serenissima.

Jacopo Tintoretto and Paolo Veronese are the example of famous artists who were asked to rewrite history on the canvases of the Doge's Palace.
