TORRAZZO, THE BELL TOWER OF CREMONA

It is the tallest masonry bell tower in Europe

Take a virtual tour in the amazing mediaeval tower of Cremona and discover with us all the secrets of this amazing building: 112 meters high, the Torrazzo is the typical quadrangular Lombard Romanesque tower, which ends with a very high spire surmounted by a golden ball.

 

The prodigious astronomical clock built in 1583 and still working does not fail to amaze visitors who come to Cremona from all over the world.

 

As you go up to the tower it is possible to visit the “Vertical Museum”  dedicated to instruments for measuring time and for understanding the planets. From the top of the tower a breathtaking view opens over the city and the Po Valley.

Discover with us the secrets of Cremonese violin making tradition and the charm of an ancient craft that still lives today in the artisan workshops of Cremona.

 

Modern luthiers are inspired, while building their musical instruments, by the classic Cremonese method, perfected by the great masters of the past, the Amati, the Guarneri and Stradivari.

 

We will present the woods, tools, shapes, paints, which contribute to the creation of the inimitable bowed instruments coming from luthier's know-how, recognized as an intangible heritage of UNESCO.

The beating heart of Cremona is the monumental complex of the Piazza del Comune with the Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, famous for the sixteenth-century pictorial cycle of the central nave, the great Romanesque Baptistery, the Torrazzo which is the highest masonry bell tower in Europe, the Palazzo Comunale and the Loggia dei Militi, which evoke atmospheres of medieval life.

CREMONA’S VIOLIN MUSEUM

PERSPECTIVE OF CREMONA’S LIUTERY HISTORY

An exciting visit discovering the local iconic musical instrument inside the violin museum. Priceless masterpieces with a unique sound, assemled more than 300 years ago y the artist families like the Amati and the Guarneri.

The guide will show the history of the violin, starting from the instruments used before 1500, then showing the process and method that evolved in perfection here in Cremona. Basic informations rearding acoustics will be given, together with biography and curiosity about Antonio Stradivari, Italy’s most famous luthier.

Last but not least, the collection of the Stradivari museum with more than 700 elements among violins, antique instruments, drawings, original autographed papers and, at last, the most recent violins that won the worlwide challenge that takes place in Cremona every 3 years

CREMONA’S CATHEDRAL

THE SISTINE CHAPEL OF NORTHERN ITALY

Cremona’s cathedral is a massive and iconic monument of Lombardy with a great and impressive artistic value.

 

​Frescoes from the first decades of the sixteenth century decorate the central nave showing the history of Jesus and Virgin Mary. These are masterpieces painted by some of the most important northern Italy renaissance painters.

 

Along the side naves and the transept, we can admire several paintings from renaissance and baroque artists from Cremona as well as the great cross all made of gold and silver.
